When to Consult the I Ching: Wisdom for Pivotal Moments
The I Ching shines brightest when consulted during moments of uncertainty, transition, or deep reflection, when logic alone feels insufficient. Seek its guidance when facing major decisions (career shifts, relationships, or creative blocks), when feeling stuck in repetitive patterns, or when seeking clarity on hidden dynamics in a situation. It’s also invaluable during periods of personal growth, offering not predictions but mirrors of your inner state and the energies at play. Traditional practice suggests approaching the I Ching with reverence—ideally in a calm, focused state, free from haste or emotional turmoil. The wisdom of the I Ching Book of Changes has survived 3,000 years and should at all times be respected.
The Question
The I Ching (Book of Changes) is a profound tool for insight, but its guidance is most effective when approached with the right mindset and well-formed questions. Here’s how to formulate a question for the best outcome:
1. Focus on Open-Ended, Wisdom-Seeking Questions
The I Ching works best with questions that invite reflection rather than yes/no answers. Instead of:
❌ “Will I get the job?”
Ask:
✅ “What should I understand about my current career path?”
✅ “How can I align myself with the best possible outcome in this situation?”
2. Frame Questions from a Place of Receptivity
The I Ching responds to your energy, approach it with humility and openness, not demands.
❌ “When will I find love?”
✅ “What do I need to learn to attract a meaningful relationship?”
3. Be Specific (But Not Limiting)
Vague questions get vague answers, but overly narrow ones restrict wisdom. Balance is key.
❌ “What does my future hold?” (Too broad)
❌ “Should I take the 8:30 AM flight?” (Too trivial)
✅ “What is the essential lesson for me in this decision?”
4. Focus on Your Role in the Situation
The I Ching emphasizes personal growth and alignment with the Tao (the natural flow). Ask about your actions, mindset, or deeper understanding rather than external events.
❌ “Will my business succeed?”
✅ “How can I lead my business with greater wisdom and integrity?”
5. Avoid Fear-Based or Controlling Questions
The I Ching is not for fortune-telling but for harmonizing with change.
❌ “How can I make X person do what I want?”
✅ “What is the healthiest way for me to approach this relationship?”

- “What do I need to understand about this challenge I’m facing?”
- “How can I best navigate this period of transition?”
- “What is the hidden lesson in my current struggle?”
- “What energy or attitude should I cultivate right now?”
How to Phrase It Mentally
Before casting the coins, hold your question in mind with sincerity. Some traditions recommend:
- Taking a few deep breaths to center yourself.
- Writing the question down to clarify intent.
- Avoiding rushed or distracted states—approach the reading with reverence.
The I Ching rewards respectful inquiry with profound insight. The more you engage with it as a mirror of your own wisdom (rather than a magic 8-ball), the deeper its guidance becomes.

Each reading is held on Zoom or WhatsApp, so you will need access to this APP either on your phone, tablet or computer.
Coins
You will need 3 coins, that you will toss 6 times to get a number from each toss on a table or other flat place. For maximum affect, the coins can be held until warm before tossing. Its not necessary to learn all this as we will go through this part of the session step by step. Just have 3 coins that you can toss during the session.
You can participate to your reading in a quiet room or even in your car. The reading of this ancient oracle can reveal material that could be misinterpreted by others so is best attended alone.
